Remaking A Sheffield Landmark
A Grade 2* listed building is being restored to be a thriving place again, for business, visitors & the community
RESTORING THE BUILDING:
REVIVING THE PLACE
Conservation is not only about preserving the past. It is about ensuring historic places remain meaningful and alive. This project will bring Beehive Works back into active use again. When complete, the building will once again be a place of activity and energy in the heart of Sheffield, connecting the city’s past with its future. This is not simply about repairing the building — it is about restoring its role as a place where people work, create and connect.
Delivered in phases, our plan will provide unique spaces for new businesses and new uses. And the first phase of work is already underway. The exterior street frontage has been restored to its former glory. Along with the refurbishment of parts of the interior of the Milton Street block. Parts of the building are already home to tenants again, with more spaces being opened as restoration continues.By combining careful restoration with a renewed purpose, we aim to ensure this remarkable building continues to thrive for generations to come.
A place to work and create a community of businesses
As work progresses, a growing community of businesses is returning to the building.
Unique spaces are becoming available for companies, studios and organisations looking to be part of a distinctive historic environment.
Tenants will be part of a place with:
character and architectural heritage
a growing neighbourhood audience
a community of businesses
a building with a story
A Hub for a growing neighbourhood
Located in the city centre’s Devonshire Quarter, Beehive Works is at the heart of a changing area. The surrounding neighbourhood is evolving rapidly, with new homes and residents arriving. While much of the area is becoming residential, this building will remain a centre of commercial and creative activity.
Its purpose is to support the life of the neighbourhood — providing workplaces, services and destinations that bring energy and vitality to the area.
The goal is simple: To allow this historic building to thrive once again as a hub of the neighbourhood.
A Rich History Of Success
When it was first built, Beehive Works was a thriving place of activity, innovation and enterprise — a centre of work, trade and connection, within the neighbourhood. It quickly became an important part of Sheffield’s story and its commercial life.
Over time, the life of the building fell quiet, but its remarkable historic fabric survived. Today it stands as one of Sheffield’s most significant listed buildings, ready to have its time again. Not just preserved but brought back to life.

Support the next chapter
Restoring a building of this significance is a long-term project. We have had welcome, help from Historic England, through a Project Development Grant. And the project is now written in to Sheffield City Council’s Regeneration Plan.
Further phases of restoration will require collaboration with partners, funders and organisations who share the vision of bringing the building fully back into use.
Opportunities exist to support the project through:
heritage funding
cultural partnerships
commercial collaboration
community initiatives
Together we can ensure this remarkable building continues to play an important role in the life of Sheffield.
